'Child of PAP's s**t' - Hadi's crude salvo against DAP

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang did not mince words in describing the origins of DAP during a speech in Terengganu last night.

“…PAP (People's Action Party) rules Singapore. Singapore was once in Malaysia, there was a PAP branch in Malaysia. When Singapore exited Malaysia, PAP changed to DAP (in Malaysia).

“So DAP is 'anak butir taik PAP' (a child from PAP's excrement). This is to say it in crude language,” he added in his parliament constituency of Marang.

The PAS president also hammered critics who have attacked PAS for working with Umno, saying that at least the Islamist party was not seeking foreign intervention.

He also pointed out that PAS was working with Umno with regard to matters concerning Islam.

On the same note, the Marang MP said there were those who work with foreign nations such as the United States.

"We have not reached that level yet, to ask a foreign country to interfere in our country. We cannot negotiate with Umno, but it is okay for them to negotiate with America.

“It is okay if (they) want to invite America to meddle in our country's affairs. What is this?" he asked, without naming anyone or citing a particular issue.

Perhaps the PAS president was referring to the US Department of Justice law suits related to 1MDB or to the White House petitions initiated by Malaysians.

PAS has received brickbats for appearing to have warm ties with Umno, as it pushes for its amendments to the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 (Act 355) to be tabled in Parliament.

Hadi had tabled the motion last Thursday, on the final day of the March-April Dewan Rakyat sitting, but speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia deferred the debate to the next meeting, which is to start on July 24.

DAP and PAS have been at loggerheads over the amendments. In the past, ideological differences had ended the parties' political cooperation on two occasions.

In his speech, Hadi reiterated that punishment under Islamic law is not meant to torture but to educate and shame, pointing out that the whipping practice under Islamic law is nowhere near as extreme as under civil law.

He also explained that his proposed amendments to Act 355 is meant to uplift and strengthen the syariah courts, as its current jurisdiction is lower than even the subordinate courts.- Mkini
