Dr M: Rural folk may not understand 1MDB, but...

Rural folk may not understand issues such as the 1MDB scandal, but they have other grouses related to rising cost of living in the country, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad says.
"There are some issues that are difficult for them (rural folks) to understand.
"For example, 1MDB with its billions of ringgit. Even one million is difficult for them to understand.
"(But) there are some issues they understand. GST they understand, rising cost of goods they understand, rising cost of petrol they understand, their children not getting scholarships they understand," Mahathir said.
The former prime minister said this at a press conference in Alor Star, Kedah, which was broadcasted on Facebook Live today.
Mahathir had earlier said that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's position was more precarious now than it was during the 13th general election, with new issues such as like 1MDB and GST having risen.
These are big issues, he said, which would pull the rakyat's support to the opposition parties in the Pakatan Harapan coalition.
"I am confident the situation now is different and we have a greater chance of winning," he said.
He reiterated that for the opposition coalition to win in the next general election, the parties needed to be more united than ever.
Mahathir also commented on his much-anticipated debate with Tourism and Culture Minister Nazri Abdul Aziz, saying that he would like it to be broadcasted as wide as possible.
"We want this debate to happen. I am excited that I get to debate," he said.
Though the debate was initially scheduled for tomorrow in Kuala Kangsar, it has been postponed to April 7 and moved to Shah Alam, after the police rejected a notice for the event.- Mkini
