Amanah: Najib misses best chance to clear his name ahead of polls

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has missed the best chance to clear his name ahead of the next general election by debating with Dr Mahathir Mohamad, said Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) deputy president Salahuddin Ayub.
“If I was in Najib's shoes, I would have debated Mahathir.
“If he (Najib) considers 1MDB not to be an issue to himself, the country and not something which haunts Umno and BN, then Najib should face Mahathir, not Nazri.
“This is something which I regret. I wish to say it again, if I was Najib, I would debate with Mahathir because this is the best chance to clear his name before the next general election,” he told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon.
Salahuddin was commenting on this Saturday's debate in Kuala Kangsar between Mahathir and Tourism and Culture Minister Nazri Abdul Aziz.
Meanwhile, the Amanah leader praised Nazri for having the courage to accept Mahathir's challenge to debate with him.
He also described Nazri as the most “jantan” (with the most guts) among all Umno ministers.

“I support the debate. I know Nazri is someone who is very brave.
“Among all the Umno ministers, he is the most 'jantan' as far as I am concerned. Someone who has the courage to face you. He had debated with me in 2003 on religious schools,” he said.
Salahuddin also expressed disappointment with the attitude of Umno leaders who refused to back the debate, especially Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak.
He said RTM should televise the event live as it concerned 1MDB.
Apart from 1MDB, the debate is also expected to focus on the RM2.6 billion in Najib's accounts and the foreign exchange market (forex) losses during Mahathir's tenure as prime minister.- Mkini
